Trauma & EMDR Therapist in Mesa, AZ

You've learned how to look like you're holding it all together, while inside you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns you can't seem to break.

Reaching out can feel vulnerable, especially if you're not sure therapy can really help.

I'm Victoria, and I help people who are tired of surviving in silence and ready to feel connected to themselves and their lives again.

Have you ever felt deeply wounded?

Overwhelmed?

Or changed by what you have endured?

At Beyond the Lamppost Counseling, we believe that even the deepest wounds can be transformed into something meaningful and beautiful.

Our name is inspired by the iconic lamppost in The Chronicles of Narnia. While many know it as a marker between worlds, its origin story in The Magician’s Nephew reveals its deeper meaning: the White Witch tore an iron bar from a London lamppost, intending to use it as a weapon of destruction. But when that cold iron fell into the fertile ground of a new world, it didn’t shatter. It grew. It became a living lamppost, standing with more purpose and beauty than ever before.

Your trauma does not have to be the end of your story. Like the lamppost, what was intended to harm you can be replanted in the fertile soil of healing, growing into something grounded, resilient, and whole.

Trauma & EMDR Therapy can be nerve racking for the first time.

I’ve been there.

I’m Victoria

I didn't start out as the therapist in the room. I started as the client in the chair across from me carrying patterns I couldn’t quite name yet from a story I hadn’t finished untangling. Overwhelmed, I was holding it together on the outside unsure if therapy could really change anything.

It did. And it's the reason I do this work: I know what it costs to walk through the door, and I know what becomes possible once you do.

When you sit down with me, you're not getting someone reading from a textbook. You're getting someone who understands, from the inside, that your wounds never made you broken. They're the story of what you survived, and they can be the place your healing begins.

I want our sessions to feel less like an interrogation and more like a real conversation at a coffee shop. Honest, grounded, and easy to be yourself in.

Trauma lives in the body, not just the story.

Most therapy is built around talking through what happened. That has its place. But if you've ever felt like you've talked something to death and your body still won't stand down? It’s possible you've met the limits of talk-only work. I'm trained in EMDR and Internal Family Systems because they reach what conversation alone can't: the alarm that won't shut off, the pattern your nervous system learned long before your thoughts had a chance to weigh in.

How I work

We work at the root, not the symptom.

Anxiety, people-pleasing, shutting down, overreacting. These are almost never the real problem. They're strategies you developed to manage something underneath that didn't get tended to. We work to find the underneath, so the strategies can finally rest. The change is lasting because we changed what was driving it, not just what it looked like on the surface.

Your faith is welcome at any level, or none at all.

If your Christian faith is part of who you are, it belongs in this room. Not as a side note, but as a real part of how we make sense of your story. If faith isn't where you are right now, that's equally welcome. I don't impose my worldview; I work with yours.

Why do trauma therapy with me?

Wholeness

You'll be treated as a whole person, never a diagnosis. We heal the root causes, not just the symptoms.

Experience

You'll have proven, effective tools guiding your healing. Steady support, never guesswork.

Faith

What you believe is welcome here. Woven into the work for those who want it, never required for those who don't.

Compassion

You'll never feel rushed or judged here. Just understood by someone who knows what it takes to reach out.

Honesty

You'll get real talk and clear insight, never passive nodding or a lecture, with enough humor to make the heavy stuff bearable.

Curiosity

We'll explore your story and experiences through your eyes, never squeezed into a one-size-fits-all approach.

Therapy with me is

A personalized approach that honors your background.

Honest and direct. Clear insights to support genuine healing.

A deep exploration of root causes, for transformative, lasting change.

Relatable and real. Honest humor to help navigate the heavy stuff.

A collaborative partnership where I provide the expert tools to meet your personal goals.

Therapy with me is not

Treating you as if you are just a diagnosis.

Guesswork that feels vague and confusing.

Passive nodding or one-sided lectures.

A temporary fix focused solely on surface symptoms.

A cold, clinical interrogation where you’ll sit in awkward silence.

My Training & Education

Get Started with Therapy Today.

Reaching out to someone new can feel like a leap. So here's the whole path, step by step. No surprises, no pressure.

1

Let’s connect.

We'll start with a free 15-minute call. No commitment, no forms to fill out first. Just a chance for you to ask questions, share a little about what's bringing you in, and see if we're a good fit.

2

The first session.

Your first session is called an intake assessment where we explore what's brought you to therapy. There's no need to prepare. We'll start simply, getting to know your story, the patterns you've noticed, and what you're hoping might feel different.

3

We get to the roots.

Once we understand the patterns, the real work begins. We gently trace where they came from and heal what's underneath. Some weeks feel like breakthroughs. Others feel like quiet, small steps forward. Both matter.
