You’ve tried everything you can think of to feel better, but nothing’s working.

Maybe you’ve been to therapy before, but the coping skills feel temporary and don’t bring lasting relief. Maybe you feel exhausted and frustrated by insight that hasn’t led to change.

But you’re still feeling…

Frustrated by lack of progress

Disconnected in your mind and body

Blindsided by feelings of overwhelm

EMDR therapy can help you free your brain and body from “stuck” memories.

EMDR is an evidence-based, highly effective method that facilitates in the healing process from past trauma.

  • Eye Movement Densitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy used to treat past trauma.

When you experience trauma, the memory often gets stored incorrectly, causing it to constantly trigger the fear and panic you felt back then.

In an EMDR session, I will use a gentle, rhythmic stimulation while you briefly bring the memory to mind. This helps your brain re-file the memory, moving it from the part that causes panic to the part that handles ordinary memories. The result is profound: The memory still exists, but the distress is gone.

  • The most important thing to know is that you are always in control and we will never start reprocessing a memory until you feel ready and safe.

EMDR is highly structured and there are eight phases to ensure you feel ready and equipped to process past memories. Learn more

  • Healing is not a straight line, but you should expect to feel better relatively quickly in some ways.

    • Initial Relief: In the first 3-4 sessions, we focus on building essential coping tools and stability. You will likely start feeling more grounded and capable of managing intense emotions.

    • Deeper Change: Deeper, more transformative change (like resolving past trauma or chronic anxiety) begins once we move into the reprocessing phase. Clients often report significant shifts in their sense of safety and daily functioning within a few months of consistent work.

The most important thing is that we're working together and constantly checking that you are seeing meaningful change.

FAQs

  • While EMDR is used to reprocess specific, "stuck" memories, the majority of our sessions involve the collaborative process of talk therapy. We use that time to:

    1. Build Skills: Learn the practical coping and emotional regulation tools (like those found in CBT or DBT) that you need for stability.

    2. Gain Insight: Understand the origins of your patterns, which is essential for long-term change.

    3. Plan the Future: Apply the new sense of safety gained from EMDR to your relationships and goals.

EMDR accelerates healing, but it is one tool in the comprehensive toolkit we use to help you thrive.

  • You don't need to come in with perfect coping skills! The second phase of EMDR is entirely dedicated to preparation.

We focus on building a strong foundation first. This includes learning practical, in-the-moment tools—often drawn from modalities like DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)—to help you:

    • Self-Soothe: Effectively manage intense emotions.

    • Ground Yourself: Stay present and calm when feeling triggered.

    • Establish Safety: Feel secure inside and outside of the session.

You will feel equipped and ready for the reprocessing work before we ever begin that phase.

  • Absolutely. While I specialize in trauma therapy, my approach is always personalized and holistic. I draw from several evidence-based methods to meet your unique needs.

EMDR is a powerful tool for processing memory, but we will primarily use integrative talk therapy to:

    • Foster Inner Connection: Use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help you identify, understand, and bring compassion to the different "parts" of yourself (like the anxious part or the self-critical part). This allows you to lead your life from a place confidence, calm, and clarity.

    • Build Practical Skills: Teach you concrete tools for emotional regulation, stress reduction, and boundary-setting, often rooted in approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills.

    • Support the Whole Process: Ensure the deep work of trauma healing is integrated into your daily life, leading to lasting confidence and peace.

In short, you get a comprehensive toolkit designed to help you not just cope, but truly heal. Learn More
